Building the Future of Business: AJS Masonry Powers SUNY Albany’s LEED Gold Expansion

As part of SUNY Albany’s green building initiative, the university constructed a new 133,000-square-foot Business School on its main Albany campus — a high-performance academic facility that meets LEED Gold Certification standards. AJS Masonry, Inc. played a key role in the structural concrete package for this landmark institutional project.

The three-story building, which includes one full level below grade, required significant foundation work. AJS crews placed nearly 4,000 cubic yards of structural concrete reinforced with over 525 tons of rebar, ensuring strength, stability, and durability from the ground up. The project demanded precise coordination, strict quality control, and detailed site logistics — all of which AJS delivered with its trademark reliability.

In addition to the main foundation, AJS constructed underground concrete service tunnels that connect the new facility to other academic buildings on campus. These utility tunnels support long-term campus infrastructure and required careful excavation, waterproofing, and concrete placement in confined conditions.

AJS also installed another 3,000 cubic yards of slab work, providing a durable base for classrooms, lecture halls, and administrative spaces throughout the building.

This project adds to AJS Masonry’s growing portfolio of institutional and higher education construction across Albany, Troy, and the greater Capital Region — showcasing the company’s capacity to handle complex, large-scale concrete work with precision.
