Precision for the Tech Industry: AJS Masonry Delivers Concrete Solutions for GlobalFoundries Fab 8.1 Expansion in Malta, NY

As part of the Fab 8.1 expansion at GlobalFoundries — one of the most advanced semiconductor manufacturing facilities in the U.S. — AJS Masonry, Inc. was awarded a Prime Contract for critical concrete scope on this complex, high-tech build in Malta, NY.

The project included 307,000 square feet of concrete slabs, totaling over 10,000 cubic yards of concrete, as well as:

  • 84,000 square feet of custom equipment pads

  • 2,000 linear feet of concrete containment curbing

  • 6,200 cubic yards of crushed stone for final subgrade prep, installed and graded within exacting tolerances

Work spanned seven interconnected buildings and required constant coordination with other trades in a live, mission-critical environment. AJS crews also performed a significant portion of their work inside existing clean room areas, where strict clean construction protocols were in place.

To comply, AJS set up airtight tenting, used negative air machines, and pre-cleaned all tools and equipment prior to entering clean zones — ensuring zero contamination risk and uninterrupted chip manufacturing operations.

This project highlights AJS Masonry’s unmatched ability to perform large-scale, technical concrete work in sensitive, schedule-driven environments, reinforcing their position as a trusted contractor for industrial, high-tech, and semiconductor construction projects across Malta, Saratoga County, and the Capital Region.
