Concrete Meets Art: AJS Masonry Brings Reflection Pool & Stone Walkways to Life at The Clark Art Institute

On the expansive campus of the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, MA, landscape and architecture converge to create a world-class cultural experience. As part of a major campus expansion, AJS Masonry, Inc. was selected to help bring the museum’s iconic water feature and outdoor spaces to life through precision concrete craftsmanship.

Working alongside renowned architects and landscape designers, AJS was responsible for constructing the concrete walls and basin of the multi-million-dollar, three-tiered reflection pool — a striking water feature that holds over 361,000 gallons and has become a signature element of the museum grounds. The basin required exacting formwork, waterproofing, and finishing to ensure both function and aesthetics at the highest level.

In addition to the pool, AJS installed concrete base slabs supporting more than 16,000 square feet of natural stone walkways that seamlessly connect the new Clark Center building with the surrounding landscape. The walkways tie the architectural elements of the museum to the natural environment, enhancing both visitor experience and visual harmony.

The Clark Art Institute project showcases AJS Masonry’s ability to execute high-end architectural concrete in cultural, civic, and landscape settings, blending structural integrity with artistic intent. With experience on premier projects across Massachusetts, New York, and the Capital Region, AJS continues to deliver concrete solutions that support the arts, education, and public engagement — built to last, and designed to inspire.
